How to add a watermark to a video

Protect and brand your videos with a text watermark, a logo, or both. Drag them anywhere on the preview, set size, opacity and rotation, add an outline or background, tile a repeating anti-copy pattern, or make the watermark drift around the frame so it cannot be cropped out. Show it for the whole video or only between two times.

Load your video, type your name, handle or website in the text layer, and switch to the Logo tab to upload a PNG or SVG logo if you have one. Drag either watermark on the preview to place it, or click one of the nine position squares. Adjust size, opacity and rotation, then export. The watermark is drawn into every frame, so it shows on every platform and in every player.

Detailed guide

Watermark styles and when to use them

A small semi-transparent logo in a corner credits you without distracting from the content. A tiled pattern across the whole frame is much harder to remove and suits previews you send to clients. A drifting watermark that slowly floats around the frame defeats cropping, and the corner-hop mode jumps between corners at intervals, a common anti-piracy technique.

Logos that look professional

Use a transparent PNG or SVG for the cleanest result. If your logo is colored or dark, Make logo white turns it into a crisp white mark that reads well on most footage. Keep it to about 10 to 15% of the frame width and 60 to 85% opacity. For text, an outline or a subtle background pill keeps it readable over bright and dark scenes.

Timed watermarks

Turn on Only show between two times to display the watermark during part of the video, for example only in the intro, only at the end, or only during the section most likely to be clipped. Pulse mode briefly fades the watermark out every few seconds for a less intrusive look.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add a logo to a video?

Switch to the Logo tab, upload a PNG, SVG or JPG, then drag it into place and set its size and opacity. Transparent PNGs look best.

Can I add both text and a logo?

Yes. Both layers can be shown at the same time, each with its own position, size, opacity and rotation.

How do I make a watermark that cannot be cropped out?

Use the tiled pattern, or choose the Drift or Corners animation so the watermark moves around the whole frame.

Can the watermark appear only for part of the video?

Yes. Turn on Only show between two times and drag the range on the timeline.

Will my video get a ToolNova watermark?

No. Only the watermark you design is added.

Does watermarking reduce quality?

The video is re-encoded at the quality you choose (High by default), which is visually lossless; the original resolution and sound are kept.

Is the video uploaded?

No. The watermark is drawn and the video encoded inside your browser.
