Remove audio from a video without losing quality

Remove the sound from a video in seconds without re-encoding the picture, make quiet videos louder (up to 400%) or loud ones quieter, auto-normalize the level, fade in and out, or silence just one section. You can also save the soundtrack on its own as M4A or WAV. Everything happens in your browser.

Choose Mute and click Remove audio. The sound track is dropped and the picture is copied packet for packet, without decoding or re-encoding, so the result looks identical to the original and is ready in about a second, even for long videos. This is the cleanest way to make a silent video for a background loop, a presentation or a social post you will add music to later.

Detailed guide

Make a video louder or quieter

Choose Volume and drag the slider, or use a preset. Values above 100% boost quiet recordings; a soft limiter rounds off peaks so the boost does not crackle. Unmute the preview to hear the exact result before exporting. Only the audio is re-encoded; the picture stays untouched.

VolumeChangeTypical use
25 to 50%−12 to −6 dBBackground video, tame loud clips
150%+3.5 dBSlightly quiet phone video
200%+6 dBQuiet voice recording
300 to 400%+9.5 to +12 dBVery quiet audio (noise gets louder too)

Auto normalize, fades and bleeping

Auto normalize measures the loudest point in the soundtrack and raises (or lowers) everything so that peak sits just below 0 dB, giving the loudest version possible without clipping. Fade in and fade out remove abrupt starts and endings. Silence a section mutes only the part you mark on the timeline, perfect for bleeping a word, a name or a noisy moment while keeping the rest of the audio.

Extract the audio from a video

Choose Extract to save only the soundtrack. M4A (AAC) is small and plays on every phone and computer; when the video already contains AAC, the audio is copied with no quality loss. WAV is uncompressed and ideal for editing in Audacity, GarageBand or a DAW. Volume, normalize, fades and trimming can be applied to the extracted audio too.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove audio from a video?

Choose Mute and click Remove audio. The sound track is removed and the picture is copied without re-encoding, so quality is unchanged.

Does muting reduce video quality?

No. The video stream is copied as-is; only the audio track is dropped.

How much louder can I make a video?

Up to 400% (+12 dB). A soft limiter prevents crackling, but very noisy recordings will also make the noise louder.

What does Auto normalize do?

It finds the loudest moment in the audio and adjusts the whole track so that peak sits just under the maximum level, making it as loud as possible without distortion.

Can I mute only part of a video?

Yes. Turn on Silence a section and drag the range on the timeline; only that part is muted, with tiny fades so it sounds clean.

Can I extract the audio as MP3?

The tool saves M4A (AAC) or WAV, which open everywhere MP3 does. M4A is smaller than MP3 at the same quality.

Is the video uploaded?

No. All processing happens in your browser.
