A countdown that fits the occasion

A countdown generator that does more than tick. Pick a date and time (or a holiday preset such as Christmas, Easter or Thanksgiving, calculated for the right year), choose how it looks, and get a big live display of days, hours, minutes and seconds, or months, weeks, total hours or ‘sleeps’ for kids. Birthdays and anniversaries can repeat every year, launches can be pinned to a time zone so everyone sees the same moment, and you can add your own background photo. Go fullscreen for a presentation, share a link, save a shareable image, add the event to Google, Apple or Outlook calendars, and get a chime and notification when it hits zero.

Counting down to Christmas with kids, a product launch with a remote team and a final exam are three different jobs, so the display adapts. Cards and the flip clock suit big events, the ring shows how much of the wait is behind you, minimal reads well on a small screen, and the units can switch from days-hours-minutes to months and days, weeks and days, total hours or the number of sleeps left. Add your own photo as the background and the countdown becomes something worth putting on a wall screen or sharing.

Detailed guide

Holiday dates, calculated for you

Some holidays move every year. The presets work out the next occurrence automatically, so you never count down to last year's date:

PresetHow the date is found
EasterFirst Sunday after the ecclesiastical full moon (Gregorian computus)
Thanksgiving (US)Fourth Thursday of November
Black FridayDay after US Thanksgiving
Mother's Day (US)Second Sunday of May
Father's Day (US)Third Sunday of June
Christmas, New Year, Halloween, Valentine'sFixed date, next upcoming year, repeats yearly

Repeating events and time zones

Set a birthday or anniversary to repeat yearly and it rolls over on its own: after the day has been celebrated, the countdown moves to next year and the progress bar restarts from the previous occurrence. Monthly and weekly repeats work the same way for paydays or a Friday 5 pm weekend countdown. For anything happening at a fixed moment worldwide, such as a launch, webinar or game release, pick the event's time zone; viewers in other zones see the correct remaining time and the date is labelled with the zone.

Business days, totals and progress

Under the clock you get the same wait expressed as total days, weeks, hours and business days (weekends excluded), which is what matters for work deadlines: a launch 20 calendar days away might be only 14 working days. The progress bar runs from when you created the countdown, or from the previous occurrence for repeating events.

Share it, present it, put it in your calendar

The share link stores the countdown's settings in the URL itself, so whoever opens it gets the same event without an account. Save image creates a 1200×630 card for social media or a group chat. The .ics download includes a one-hour-before reminder and the repeat rule, and opens in Google Calendar, Apple Calendar and Outlook. Fullscreen uses the browser's real fullscreen mode, ideal for classrooms, events and streams.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a countdown to a specific date and time?

Type an event name, pick the date and time, then press Create countdown. It starts ticking straight away and is saved in your browser.

Can a birthday countdown repeat every year?

Yes. Set Repeats to every year. After the day has passed it rolls over to the next birthday automatically, and the progress bar restarts from the last one.

Can I set the countdown to a different time zone?

Yes. Open more options and pick the event's time zone. The countdown then hits zero at the same moment for everyone, wherever they are.

How many sleeps until Christmas?

Tap the Christmas preset: it uses the “sleeps” unit, which counts the nights left until December 25 in your local time.

Does it know when Easter and Thanksgiving are?

Yes. Easter is calculated with the Gregorian computus, US Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November, and Mother's and Father's Day use their US Sunday rules, always for the next upcoming year.

What display styles are there?

Cards, flip clock, progress ring and minimal. You can also switch units to months + days, weeks + days, total days, total hours or sleeps, and hide the seconds.

Can I use my own photo as the background?

Yes. Add a photo when creating the countdown or from the style bar. It's resized in your browser and stored on your device, not uploaded.

Is there a fullscreen mode for a TV or projector?

Yes. The fullscreen button uses the browser's real fullscreen mode, with a bigger display for presentations, classrooms and streams. Press Esc to exit.

Will it alert me when the countdown ends?

With sound on, a chime plays at zero, and with alerts on you also get a browser notification, as long as the page is open in a tab.

Can I count up from a past date?

Yes. Choose Count up (since) to track time elapsed since an anniversary, quit date or start date.

How do I share a countdown?

Share link copies a URL that recreates the countdown for anyone who opens it. Save image creates a 1200×630 picture for social media or chats.

Can I add the event to Google Calendar or Outlook?

Yes. Download an .ics file (with a one-hour reminder and the repeat rule) for Apple Calendar or Outlook, or open it directly in Google Calendar.

Does it count business days?

Yes. The totals show remaining business days (Monday to Friday) alongside days, weeks and hours.

Is it free and private?

Completely free with unlimited countdowns, and everything is stored in your browser. Only a share link you choose to send contains event details.
