Staff paper that looks engraved

A staff paper generator for composers, teachers, students and players. Pick a paper type and get properly engraved blank manuscript with real clefs, key signatures and time signatures, not clip-art. Choose the staff size in millimetres (big staves for kids, tight ones for scores), how many systems fit the page, measures per line with bar lines, lyric lines, measure numbers and instrument labels for ensembles. Add a title, composer and name/date lines, choose A4, Letter, Legal or A5 in portrait or landscape, and download a high-resolution PDF of up to 20 numbered pages, a PNG, or print directly.

Most free staff paper is a generic grid of lines. This generator draws manuscript the way engraving software does: clefs, sharps, flats and common-time symbols come from Noto Music, a proper music font, and are sized to the staff; bar lines join across grand staves and choir brackets; key signatures are placed on the correct lines for treble, bass, alto and tenor clefs; and a brace or bracket groups the staves of each system.

Print-ready PDFs

PDF pages are rendered at 220 dpi and PNGs at 300 dpi, so lines stay crisp on any printer. Choose up to 20 pages and they're numbered automatically, with measure numbers continuing across pages if you turn them on. The light line colour is useful for tracing exercises or paper you'll write over in pen.

Frequently asked questions

Is the music paper free to download?

Yes. Download PDFs or PNGs or print as many pages as you like, with no signup and no watermark.

What types of staff paper can I make?

Treble, bass, alto, tenor and blank staves, grand staff, big staves for kids, lead sheets, SATB choir, string quartet, voice + piano, guitar/bass/ukulele TAB, guitar staff + TAB, drum staff, rhythm lines and chord boxes.

Can I add a key signature and time signature?

Yes. Choose any key from 7 flats to 7 sharps and a time signature such as 4/4, 3/4, 6/8, 5/4, 7/8, C (common time) or cut time.

How do I make bigger staves for children?

Pick “Big staff for kids” or raise the staff size slider. Around 14 mm or more works well for young beginners.

Can I get guitar staff and TAB together?

Yes. “Guitar staff + TAB” pairs a treble-8 staff with a six-line TAB staff, with bar lines connected across both.

How many pages can the PDF have?

Up to 20 numbered pages in one PDF. Measure numbers continue from page to page if they're turned on.

Which paper sizes are supported?

A4, US Letter, US Legal and A5, in portrait or landscape, with adjustable margins.

Can I add lyric lines?

Yes. Add up to three dashed text lines under each system, useful for lyrics, chord names or notes.

Yes. Add a title, composer or arranger, and name and date lines.

Can I make blank chord diagrams?

Yes. Choose guitar or ukulele chord boxes and set the number of columns, rows and frets per box.

Why are the clefs drawn with a music font?

So they look like real engraving. If the font can't load (for example offline), a system font is used and the staves are unaffected.

What resolution are the downloads?

PDF pages are rendered at 220 dpi and PNGs at 300 dpi for crisp printing.
