How the face shape detector works
Upload a selfie or scan your face live and the detector maps 478 facial landmarks in your browser. It measures your forehead, cheekbones, jaw and face length, plus the angles of your jaw and chin, then scores you against all seven face shapes: oval, round, square, oblong, heart, diamond and triangle. You see every score, not just one label, so you can tell when your face is a blend of two shapes. Your results come with the haircuts, glasses frames, beard styles, contouring, earrings and necklines that suit your shape, and you can try 10 glasses frame styles on your own photo. No photo? Measure your face with a ruler or answer six quiz questions. Nothing is uploaded: detection runs entirely on your device.
The detector uses a face landmark model to place 478 points on your face, in your browser. It measures four widths and lengths that stylists use: forehead width (across the temples), cheekbone width (the widest point under the outer eyes), jaw width (corner to corner below the ears) and face length (hairline to chin, with the hairline estimated from your proportions). It also measures the angle at the corners of your jaw and at your chin, which separates angular square jaws from soft round ones and pointed heart and diamond chins. These ratios are compared with the proportions of each of the seven face shapes, and every shape gets a score. Because the comparison uses ratios, photo size and distance don't matter.
