Belt Size Calculator

Find your belt size from your pants or waist measurement, convert between US inches, EU centimetres, and S–XXL, and see a live belt preview with the fitted hole — free, in your browser.

A precise belt sizer with three modes and a live preview. From-waist mode turns your pants or waist measurement into a belt size using the two-inch rule, adjusts for wearing the belt low on the hips, and calculates the total strap length including the tail past the buckle. Measure mode reads the true size from a belt you already own. The converter switches any belt size between US inches, EU centimetres, and letter sizes. A live SVG belt shows the five holes and marks the one you'll fasten. Everything runs locally.

Overview

The two-inch rule

Belts are sized about two inches larger than your pants waist. The idea is that the strap fastens on the middle of five holes, leaving a notch of room on either side to size up after a big meal or down as the leather stretches. So a 34-inch waist usually takes a size 36 belt. This calculator applies the rule and rounds to the nearest even inch the way belt brands label their sizes, then shows the result across every system.

Where you wear it changes the size

The same person can need two different belt sizes. Dress trousers sit at the natural waist, while jeans ride lower on the hips, where your body is wider — so a jeans belt is often a size larger. Use the wearing-position toggle to add that allowance automatically, and if you are truly between sizes, buy up: a belt that is slightly long just fastens on an inner hole.

Measuring a belt you already own

The most reliable way to find your size is to measure a belt that fits. Lay it flat and measure from the fold where the leather wraps the buckle bar — not the metal tip — to the hole you actually use. That length in inches is your belt size. The Measure mode does the conversion and also tells you the pants waist it corresponds to, so you can shop by either number.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What belt size should I buy for a 34-inch waist?+

For a 34-inch pants waist, a size 36 belt is the usual choice, because belts are sized about two inches larger so the strap fastens on the middle hole. If you wear the belt low on your hips, consider sizing up to 38. The calculator applies this automatically and also shows the EU and letter sizes.

How do belt sizes convert between US and EU?+

US belts are labelled in inches and EU belts in centimetres. Multiply the inch size by 2.54 and round to the nearest 5 — so a 36" belt is about a 90 cm EU belt. The Convert mode does this in both directions and also gives the S–XXL letter size.

How do I measure my belt size without a belt?+

Take your pants waist measurement (or measure around where you'll wear the belt) and add two inches. Enter it in the From waist mode and the tool returns your belt size, total strap length, and a preview showing where the buckle prong will sit.

Is a belt size the same as my pants size?+

Usually not — a belt is typically two inches larger than your pants waist size. A 32 waist most often takes a 34 belt. Some brands do label belts by pants size, so measuring an existing belt (Measure mode) is the surest way to know.

What is the total strap length and why does it matter?+

Total strap length is the whole belt end to end: the fitted circumference plus the tail that passes through the loop and the leather that folds around the buckle. It matters for made-to-order or handmade belts. The From waist mode calculates it from your waist, chosen tail length, and buckle fold.

Is this belt size calculator free and private?+

Yes. All calculations run in your browser and nothing is uploaded, stored, or shared. There is no account — use it on any device.
