A real perforated stamp edge, precisely tuned

A full postage stamp studio in your browser. Turn any photo, or plain text, into an authentic perforated stamp: choose from rectangle, circle, oval, classic, ticket or custom shapes, tune the frame, inner and outer borders, dial in the perforation size, depth, spacing and pattern, add top, bottom, value, year and auto-incrementing serial text, then finish with one of seven styles (Classic, Vintage, Royal, Retro, Engraved, Monochrome, Modern) and grain, halftone, paper, fade, ink and vignette effects. Build one stamp or many, download them individually, as a ZIP, or arrange them on a printable sheet or an envelope, all rendered locally as transparent PNGs.

A postage stamp's signature look is its perforated edge, the row of tiny notches punched around the border. This maker recreates it by cutting the perforations straight into the paper on an HTML canvas, so the transparent cutout has genuine stamp teeth instead of a flat rectangle. Pick round, square, scallop, zigzag or wave teeth, then set the perforation size, how deep each notch bites and how far apart they sit, and the edge redraws instantly. Add a coloured frame ring with independent inner and outer border lines for the classic engraved-border look.

Detailed guide

What "perf 11" means, and how to match it

Stamp collectors describe a perforated edge by its gauge: the number of holes, or teeth, along 2 centimetres of edge. A stamp marked "perf 11" has 11 teeth per 2 cm; most real postage stamps fall somewhere between about perf 10 and perf 15, and a lower number means a coarser, chunkier edge. You can work out the gauge of your own stamp from its printed size: count the teeth along one edge and divide by half the edge length in centimetres. For example, 24 teeth along a 4 cm edge is perf 12. In this maker the Size slider sets how big each tooth is and the Spacing slider sets the gap between teeth, so a smaller size with lower spacing packs more teeth onto each edge (a finer gauge), while a larger size with more spacing gives the coarse, hand-torn look of early stamps. The teeth scale with the stamp, so the download has exactly the same number of teeth per edge as the preview.

Shapes, styles and effects for any era

Choose a rectangle, circle, oval, classic portrait, wide ticket or a fully custom aspect ratio, and flip any shape between portrait and landscape. Seven one-click styles set the mood, from a clean Modern flat look to Vintage sepia, Royal deep-red and gold, Retro halftone, Engraved line work and pure Monochrome, and six fine-tune effects, grain, halftone, paper texture, fade, ink and vignette, let you age or sharpen the result exactly how you want. Add country text, a value, a year and an automatic serial number in serif, sans, condensed, mono or script type.

Which stamp style fits your project?

Each style preset sets the frame colour, text colour, font and a starting mix of effects, and you can fine-tune any of them afterwards. Use the table as a starting point: pick the row closest to your project, apply the style, then push the listed effects up or down until it looks right.

One stamp or a whole sheet, ready to print

Work with a single image or load several at once, cropping each one inside the stamp window, or create text-only stamps with no photo at all. Download each stamp as its own transparent PNG, grab them all in one ZIP, or switch to the Sheet view to tile every stamp on a printable page, or an envelope layout with a postmark, and drag each stamp exactly where you want it. Everything renders in your browser at high resolution; nothing is uploaded, so it stays private and free.

Printing stamps at the right size

A single stamp downloads at 1,600 pixels on its long side. Print resolution is simply pixels divided by inches, so at a typical print quality of 300 DPI that stamp could fill about 5.3 inches (13.5 cm). Real postage stamps are much smaller, often around 2 to 3 cm, so you will never run short of resolution at stamp size: shrinking the image only makes it sharper. To print, place the PNG in a document or photo-print layout, set its width to the size you want, and print at 100% or "Actual size" rather than "Fit to page" so the printer does not rescale it. Matte photo paper or sticker paper gives the most stamp-like finish, and the Sheet download is the quickest way to print many at once.

Can I mail a homemade stamp as real postage?

No. Stamps made with this tool, or any image editor, are decorative and cannot be used to pay for postage. Postal services only accept postage they issue or authorise, and using a printed look-alike on mail as if it were real postage can count as counterfeiting. Custom stamps that are valid for mailing do exist, but they are produced only through official programmes; in the United States, for example, personalised photo postage is sold through USPS-approved customized postage providers. Use the stamps you make here for scrapbooks, invitations, stationery, packaging, stickers and digital designs, and if you decorate an envelope with one, add a real stamp as well so the letter is delivered.

Frequently asked questions

How do I turn a photo into a postage stamp?

Click Add photos and upload an image, drag the cutter to frame the part you want, then pick a shape, set the frame and perforation, and download a transparent PNG with the classic stamp edge. You can also make a stamp from plain text with no photo at all.

What stamp shapes can I choose?

Six: rectangle, circle, oval, classic (tall portrait), ticket (wide, with side notches) and a fully custom aspect ratio. Any shape can be flipped between portrait and landscape.

Can I control the perforated edge?

Yes. Choose from round, square, scallop, zigzag, wave or clean perforation patterns, and adjust the size of each tooth, how deep it cuts and the spacing between them. The edge is punched right into the paper so the export has real transparent stamp teeth.

Can I add text, a value, a year and a serial number?

Yes. Add top and bottom text, a bold value, a year and an auto-incrementing serial number, in serif, sans, condensed, mono or script fonts, and set the text colour. Serial numbers count up automatically across a set of stamps.

What styles and effects are available?

Seven one-click styles, Classic, Vintage, Royal, Retro, Engraved, Monochrome and Modern, plus six adjustable effects: grain, halftone, paper texture, fade, ink and vignette, so you can make a stamp look brand new or convincingly aged.

Can I make several stamps and download them together?

Yes. Load multiple photos (or text stamps), and download each one as its own transparent PNG or grab the whole set as a single ZIP file.

Can I arrange stamps on a sheet or an envelope?

Yes. The Sheet view tiles all your stamps on a printable page with plain, paper or kraft backgrounds and adjustable columns and spacing, or an envelope layout with a postmark. You can drag each stamp to position it, then download the whole sheet as a PNG.

Is the exported stamp transparent?

Yes. Each stamp exports as a PNG with a real perforated edge; the notches and everything outside the stamp are fully transparent, so it drops cleanly onto any background.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. Every stamp is drawn entirely in your browser on an HTML canvas. Your photos are never uploaded, stored or sent anywhere.

Is it free and watermark-free?

Yes. The stamp maker is completely free, with no watermark and no signup required.

Can I mail a stamp I made here?

No. The stamps are decorative and are not valid postage. Mail only travels with postage issued or authorised by your postal service, so use these stamps for crafts, invitations and designs, and add a real stamp to anything you post.

What resolution are the exported stamps?

Each single stamp exports as a transparent PNG 1,600 pixels on its long side, about 5.3 inches at 300 DPI. The stamp sheet uses 720 pixels per stamp and the envelope layout exports at 3,200 × 2,100 pixels.

How do I print a sheet of stamps at the right size?

Download the sheet PNG, place it in a document or photo-print layout, set the width you want, and print at 100% or Actual size instead of Fit to page. Matte photo paper or sticker paper gives the most stamp-like finish.
