Overview

Convert any image to the right format

Different formats exist for different jobs: WebP for lightweight web delivery, PNG and GIF for lossless graphics and transparency, JPEG for universally-compatible photos, BMP for uncompressed raster editing, and ICO for favicons and Windows app icons. This converter re-encodes each image on an HTML5 canvas, plus built-in JavaScript encoders for GIF, BMP, and multi-size ICO, at the quality you choose, so you can switch WebP to JPG, PNG to WebP, JPG to PNG, AVIF to JPG, or PNG to ICO without installing software or uploading anything.

How to use

How to use Image Format Converter

  1. 01

    Add images

Drag and drop one or many images, click to browse, or paste from your clipboard. JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, and SVG sources are all accepted.

  2. 02

    Choose a target format

Pick WebP, JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, or ICO, or tap a preset. WebP is greyed out if your browser can't encode it; PNG, JPG, GIF, BMP, and ICO are always available.

  3. 03

    Set quality, size & transforms

Use the quality slider or switch to Target-size to hit an exact KB. Optionally resize, rotate, or flip, pick a transparency fill color, or choose favicon sizes for ICO.

  4. 04

    Convert, compare & download

Click Convert, review the size change and before/after compare for each file, then download individually or grab the whole batch as a ZIP.

Guide

Detailed guide

Advanced controls: target size, resize, favicons, and compare

Go beyond a simple quality slider: switch to Target-size mode and the converter binary-searches the quality to land your JPG or WebP just under an exact KB limit. Optionally downscale to a maximum width and height, rotate or flip, and pick a custom matte color for transparent areas. Convert to ICO and pack 16, 32, 48, and up to 256px into one multi-resolution favicon. A before/after compare slider shows exactly what each conversion changed.

Batch, private, and honest about support

Drop a whole folder of images and convert them together, then download each one, or all at once as a single ZIP. Because encoding runs in your browser, the tool detects which formats your browser can actually produce and disables the rest, so you never get a silently-broken file. Every image is processed locally and never sent to a server, and each re-encode strips EXIF and location metadata for privacy.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a WEBP image to JPG for free?+

Upload your WEBP file, select JPG as the output format, set your preferred quality level, and click Convert. Download the JPG file instantly, no signup or software needed.

What is the difference between JPG, PNG, and WEBP?+

JPG is best for photos (small files, slight quality loss). PNG is best for graphics needing transparency (larger files, no quality loss). WEBP offers the best of both, smaller files than JPG with optional transparency support.

Why convert images to WEBP?+

WEBP images are 25-34% smaller than JPG at equivalent quality, making websites load faster. Google recommends WEBP for web pages, and all modern browsers support it.

Can I convert PNG to JPG without losing the image quality?+

PNG to JPG conversion always involves some quality change because JPG uses lossy compression. Set the quality slider to 90-95% to minimize visible quality loss while still reducing file size.

Does converting image formats remove the background transparency?+

Converting PNG (transparent) to JPG will fill the transparent areas with white, since JPG doesn't support transparency. To keep transparency, convert to WEBP or keep as PNG.

Can I convert multiple images at once?+

Yes. The batch processing feature lets you upload and convert multiple images simultaneously, then download every converted file individually or as a single ZIP archive.

Which image formats can I convert to?+

Six output formats: WebP, JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, and ICO. JPG, PNG, and WebP are encoded by your browser (WebP is auto-disabled if unsupported), while GIF, BMP, and multi-size ICO are encoded by built-in JavaScript so they always work. Sources can be JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, or SVG — so you can convert AVIF or SVG to JPG or PNG, for example.

Can I convert to AVIF?+

AVIF is supported as an input you can convert from, but not as an output. No current web browser can actually encode AVIF through the canvas API — it silently falls back to PNG — so rather than hand you a mislabeled file, we don't offer AVIF as a target. Use WebP for a comparably small, universally-encodable web format.

How do I make a favicon (.ico) from a PNG?+

Add your PNG or logo, choose ICO as the target format, then pick the icon sizes you want (16, 32, and 48px are the common favicon set, up to 256px). The tool packs every selected size into one multi-resolution .ico file that browsers and Windows can use directly.

Can I convert an image to an exact file size?+

Yes. For WebP or JPG, switch to Target-size mode and enter a KB limit (for example 200KB). The converter binary-searches the encoding quality to land the output just under your target, so you don't have to guess a quality percentage.

Can I resize or rotate while converting?+

Yes. Turn on Resize to downscale to a maximum width and height (aspect ratio is preserved), and use the transform controls to rotate in 90° steps or flip horizontally and vertically. These are applied before the image is re-encoded to your chosen format.

Is my privacy protected — are images uploaded?+

No. Every conversion runs entirely in your browser using the canvas API and built-in encoders — images are never uploaded to a server, and re-encoding strips EXIF and GPS metadata from the output, so location and camera data don't travel with your converted files.

Can I convert HEIC images to JPG or PNG?+

Browsers can't decode raw HEIC directly, so if your photo is still .heic, first export or share it as JPG on your phone (iPhones do this automatically when you AirDrop or email a photo). Once it's a JPG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF, you can convert it here to any supported format.

How do I convert HEIC photos from my iPhone to JPG?+

Add the .heic files and choose JPG as the output format; each photo is converted in your browser and downloaded as a standard JPG that opens anywhere. Nothing is uploaded, so your photos stay private.

Can I convert WebP or AVIF images to PNG or JPG?+

Yes. Modern formats like WebP and AVIF convert to PNG or JPG (and back) directly in the browser, which is handy when a site or app will not accept the newer format.

Can I convert many images to WebP at once for a faster website?+

Yes. Batch-convert a whole set of JPG/PNG images to WebP to cut their file size for faster page loads. All conversion happens locally, so large batches never leave your device.

Does converting to JPG remove transparency?+

Yes: JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas become a solid background. Use PNG or WEBP if you need to keep transparency.

Can I convert several images at once?+

Yes: add a batch and convert them all to the chosen format in one go.
