Adding vs removing tax
Adding tax takes a net price up to the gross a customer pays; removing (reverse) tax works backward from a gross total to find the net and the tax hidden inside it. Mixing these up is a common invoicing error — the calculator keeps the two directions explicit.
The reverse calculation trap
You can't find the tax in a gross amount by simply taking the rate off the total — the math works on the net figure, not the gross. Reverse mode applies the correct formula so a 20% VAT is properly extracted from an inclusive price.
Right rate, right region
GST, VAT, and sales tax rates vary by country and sometimes by product. Presets get common rates right instantly, while custom rates cover regional or reduced rates, so the breakdown always matches your jurisdiction.
