What is a good internet speed for streaming?+
Netflix recommends at least 5 Mbps for HD and 25 Mbps for 4K. For multiple users streaming simultaneously, aim for 50-100 Mbps.
What is ping and why does it matter?+
Ping (latency) measures how quickly data travels from your device to a server and back, in milliseconds (ms). For gaming, under 20ms is excellent. Over 100ms causes noticeable lag.
What is jitter in a speed test?+
Jitter is the variation in ping over time. Even with a fast connection, high jitter (over 30ms) causes stuttering in video calls and online gaming. Ideal jitter is below 5ms.
Why is my speed test result slower than what I pay for?+
Many factors affect results: WiFi signal strength, distance from router, other devices using bandwidth, and time of day. For accurate results, test via ethernet cable and close background apps.
How does this speed test work without any ads?+
This tool runs entirely in your browser using multi-threaded fetch requests to measure bandwidth. No third-party scripts or ad trackers, just clean, accurate measurements.
What is bufferbloat and why does this test measure it?+
Bufferbloat is a spike in latency that happens when your connection is fully busy, your router over-buffers packets and ping jumps from ~15ms to hundreds of ms. It's why a 'fast' connection can still lag on video calls and in games. This test keeps pinging while your download and upload are saturated, then grades the latency increase from A (under 30ms of increase) to F. A poor grade is often fixable by enabling Smart Queue Management (SQM/fq_codel) on your router.
Why does this show a higher speed than other speed tests?+
On fast fiber, cable or 5G, a single download stream often can't fill the pipe, so single-connection tests under-report your bandwidth. This test opens 4 parallel download streams (and 3 for upload) to Cloudflare's edge network to truly saturate the link, then reports a stable trimmed-peak average, closer to your real maximum throughput.
What's the difference between idle ping and latency under load?+
Idle ping is your latency when the connection is quiet, the number you usually see quoted. Latency under load is measured while the link is fully saturated with the download or upload test. The gap between them is your bufferbloat. Gaming and calls depend far more on latency under load staying low than on idle ping alone.
Are my speed test results saved or uploaded anywhere?+
Your last eight results (download, upload, ping and bufferbloat) are saved only in your browser's local storage so you can compare over time. Nothing is uploaded to us, your IP is not logged, and the connection info shown is read locally from Cloudflare's trace endpoint and displayed only to you.
How do I know if my speed is good enough for 4K, gaming or video calls?+
After the test, the tool shows plain-English verdict badges: 4K/UHD streaming needs about 25+ Mbps download; competitive gaming needs low ping (under 50ms), low jitter and low bufferbloat; HD video calls need roughly 5 Mbps down and 3 Mbps up with stable latency; cloud backups want 10+ Mbps upload; and a busy multi-device home wants 100+ Mbps download. Each badge passes or fails based on your measured numbers.
How much internet speed do I need for 4K streaming or gaming?+
Roughly: 3-5 Mbps for HD, 15-25 Mbps for 4K streaming, and for gaming, low ping matters more than raw speed (under 50 ms is good). The test reports download, upload, ping and jitter so you can check against these.
What do download, upload, ping and jitter mean?+
Download is how fast you receive data, upload how fast you send, ping the round-trip latency (lower is better), and jitter the variation in ping. The test measures all four in your browser.
