JPG vs PNG — which should you use?
- JPG — best for photographs; small files, but no transparency
- PNG — best for logos, screenshots, and graphics with transparency or sharp edges
- WebP — modern format that often beats both on size at the same quality
Convert between formats online
Open the Image Format Converter, upload your image, and choose the target format (JPG, PNG, WebP, or GIF). Conversion happens in your browser with the Canvas API, so nothing is uploaded. When you convert to PNG or WebP, the transparency channel is preserved.
A note on file size
Converting a photo to PNG can make it larger, because PNG is lossless. If your goal is a smaller file rather than a specific format, run it through the Image Compressor instead.
