Formula: (Part ÷ Whole) × 100. For example, if 30 students out of 120 passed: (30 ÷ 120) × 100 = 25%. Use the 'X is what % of Y' calculator mode to solve this instantly.
To find X% of a number, multiply the number by X/100. For example, 20% of 150 = 150 x 0.20 = 30. Enter the values and the calculator shows the worked result instantly.
Divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100. For example, 30 is 30/150 x 100 = 20% of 150. The tool computes this and the reverse (finding the original from a percentage) too.
Percentage change = (new - old) / old x 100. A rise from 80 to 100 is (100-80)/80 x 100 = 25% increase; a drop from 100 to 80 is a 20% decrease. Enter both numbers to see the change.
Write the percentage as a fraction over 100, then simplify. 40% becomes 40:100, which simplifies to 2:5. For a part-to-part split, subtract from 100 first: 40% and 60% is 40:60 = 2:3. Use the ratio-split mode to apply that ratio to any total.
Add the ratio parts to get the whole, then divide each part by that total and multiply by 100. For 3:2, the total is 5, so the parts are 3/5 = 60% and 2/5 = 40%. The calculator does this and shows each part's share of the total.
If a value already includes (or excludes) a percentage, divide to work backwards. A price of $120 after a 20% increase came from 120 / 1.20 = $100; a sale price of $60 after 25% off came from 60 / 0.75 = $80. Use the add/subtract-% mode and read the base figure.
Subtract the old value from the new, divide by the old value, and multiply by 100, the tool does this automatically when you enter both numbers.
