Overview

Why pixel width beats character count

Google truncates titles and descriptions by pixel width, not character count, so a title with wide letters gets cut sooner than one with narrow letters. This preview measures the actual rendered width of your text in Google's font and shows exactly where it will be trimmed — far more accurate than the usual 60-character rule of thumb.

Write snippets that earn clicks

Your title and meta description are your ad in the search results. Use the live desktop and mobile previews to craft a compelling, keyword-rich title that fits, and a description that summarises the page and invites the click. Toggle the date prefix to see how a published date eats into your description space. Everything updates instantly in your browser.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How long should a title tag be?+

Aim for under about 600 pixels on desktop (roughly 50–60 characters). This tool measures the actual pixel width so you can see the real limit rather than guessing by character count.

What's the ideal meta description length?+

Around 150–160 characters, or under ~990 pixels on desktop. Longer descriptions get truncated with an ellipsis in the results.

Why do my results look different on mobile?+

Mobile allows more title width but formats differently. Use the device toggle to preview both, since a large share of searches are on phones.

Does Google always use my title and description?+

Not always — Google may rewrite them based on the query. A clear, relevant title and description make it more likely yours are used.
