# Height Comparison

> Compare heights of people, celebrities, animals and landmarks side by side to scale. Drag to reorder, add photos, shoes and builds, see exact differences, check your height percentile by country and predict a child's adult height.

Line up as many people and things as you like on one scaled chart: yourself, a partner, friends, 80+ celebrities and athletes, country averages, animals, cars and famous landmarks. Every figure is drawn to its exact height in cm or feet and inches, with head lines, a ruler, shoes or heels, body builds and your own photos. Switch to Percentile to see how your height ranks in 44 countries, or Child predictor to estimate a child's adult height from both parents. Everything runs in your browser and saves automatically.

## About

### How the height comparison works

Each person or object is drawn so that its top sits exactly at its real height on a shared ruler, measured from the ground. A 180 cm figure next to a 160 cm figure is therefore exactly 12.5% taller on screen, whatever zoom level you use. People are drawn as proportional silhouettes (adult figures are about 7.5 heads tall, children have larger heads), so body type changes the width but never the height. Shoes, heels or a platform are added underneath the figure and included in the total height, which is how couples usually compare themselves in photos.

### Height conversion table: cm to feet and inches

Heights are usually quoted in centimetres in most of the world and in feet and inches in the US and UK. One inch is exactly 2.54 cm and one foot is 30.48 cm. Use the unit switch to show the chart in either system, or turn on dual labels to show both under every figure.

| Centimetres | Feet & inches | Inches |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 150 cm | 4 ft 11 in | 59.1 in |
| 155 cm | 5 ft 1 in | 61.0 in |
| 160 cm | 5 ft 3 in | 63.0 in |
| 165 cm | 5 ft 5 in | 65.0 in |
| 170 cm | 5 ft 7 in | 66.9 in |
| 175 cm | 5 ft 9 in | 68.9 in |
| 180 cm | 5 ft 11 in | 70.9 in |
| 185 cm | 6 ft 1 in | 72.8 in |
| 190 cm | 6 ft 3 in | 74.8 in |
| 200 cm | 6 ft 7 in | 78.7 in |

### Average height by country

Average adult height varies by more than 20 cm between countries, mostly because of childhood nutrition and health. The Percentile tab uses young-adult averages from the NCD-RisC global study to show how your height ranks in each country. A few examples are below; the tool lists 44 countries.

| Country | Average man | Average woman |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Netherlands | 183.8 cm (6 ft 0.4 in) | 170.4 cm (5 ft 7.1 in) |
| Denmark | 181.9 cm (5 ft 11.6 in) | 169.5 cm (5 ft 6.7 in) |
| Germany | 179.9 cm (5 ft 10.8 in) | 166.2 cm (5 ft 5.4 in) |
| United Kingdom | 178.2 cm (5 ft 10.2 in) | 164.4 cm (5 ft 4.7 in) |
| United States | 177.1 cm (5 ft 9.7 in) | 163.5 cm (5 ft 4.4 in) |
| China | 175.7 cm (5 ft 9.2 in) | 163.5 cm (5 ft 4.4 in) |
| Japan | 170.8 cm (5 ft 7.2 in) | 158.3 cm (5 ft 2.3 in) |
| India | 166.5 cm (5 ft 5.6 in) | 155.2 cm (5 ft 1.1 in) |
| World average | about 171 cm (5 ft 7.3 in) | about 159.5 cm (5 ft 2.8 in) |

### Height differences in couples

In most countries men are on average 12 to 14 cm taller than women, a ratio of about 1.08. Studies of couples find the man is taller in roughly 9 out of 10 pairs, but the size of the gap varies widely. Add both partners, then use the shoes field to see how heels or lifts change the picture; the differences table shows the gap in your unit, as a percentage and as a ratio.

### Predicting a child's adult height

The Child predictor uses two well-known methods. The mid-parental (Tanner) method averages both parents' heights and adds 6.5 cm for boys or subtracts 6.5 cm for girls; about 95% of children finish within 8.5 cm either side of it. The growth-percentage method divides a child's current height by the share of adult height typically reached at that age (for example about 72% for an 8-year-old boy). When both are available the tool blends them and draws the expected growth path. For medical concerns about growth, talk to a paediatrician.

### Tips for accurate comparisons with photos

Crop the photo tightly from the top of the head to the soles of the feet, or use a PNG with a transparent background, which the tool trims automatically. Then type the person's real height: the photo is stretched to that height on the ruler. Photos taken straight on from about waist height distort the least. Uploaded images stay in your browser and are left out of share links.

## FAQ

### How do I compare two people's heights?

Add each person with their name and height (in cm or feet and inches), and they appear side by side on a scaled chart. The Height differences panel shows the exact gap, the percentage difference and how many times taller one is than the other.

### Can I compare my height with celebrities?

Yes. Open the Library tab and pick from over 80 actors, singers, athletes and record holders, or search by name. Celebrity heights are commonly reported figures and vary between sources, so you can edit any height after adding it.

### Can I upload my own photo?

Yes. Use the Photo tab to upload or drop an image, then set the real height. Transparent margins are trimmed automatically so the head and feet line up with the ruler. The image is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

### How do heels or shoes change the comparison?

Select a person and enter a value in Shoes / heels / platform. It is added under their feet and included in their total height, so you can see how a couple looks with sneakers (about 2.5 cm) or heels (5 to 10 cm).

### How many people or objects can I compare?

There is no fixed limit. Zoom, full-screen mode and horizontal scrolling keep big line-ups readable, and very tall items such as the Eiffel Tower or Burj Khalifa scale the ruler automatically.

### What is the average height for a man and a woman?

Worldwide, young adult men average about 171 cm (5 ft 7 in) and women about 159.5 cm (5 ft 3 in). National averages range from about 184 cm for men in the Netherlands to around 160 cm in parts of Southeast Asia.

### How do I know if I'm tall for my country?

Open the Percentile tab, enter your height and choose a country. You'll see your percentile, z-score, how rare your height is (for example 1 in 20 men) and a table of how you'd rank in 44 other countries.

### How accurate is the child height predictor?

The mid-parental method predicts adult height to within about 8.5 cm either way for 95% of children. Adding the child's current age and height usually improves the estimate. Nutrition, health and puberty timing can still move the final result.

### How do I convert my height from cm to feet?

Divide centimetres by 2.54 to get inches, then divide by 12 for feet. For example 175 cm / 2.54 = 68.9 inches = 5 feet 8.9 inches. The tool converts instantly when you switch units.

### Can I save or share my height comparison?

Yes. Download it as PNG, JPG or SVG, copy the image to the clipboard, save named line-ups in your browser, or copy a share link that reopens the same comparison for anyone.

### Is this height comparison tool free?

Yes, it is completely free with no sign-up and no uploads. Your line-up is stored only in your own browser.

### Can I compare heights with animals and buildings?

Yes. The library includes cats, dogs, horses, bears, elephants, giraffes and a T. rex, plus vehicles and landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty, Big Ben, the Great Pyramid, the Eiffel Tower, the Empire State Building and the Burj Khalifa.
