# Face Shape Detector

> Find your face shape from a selfie, a live camera scan, tape measurements or a quick quiz. Get a match score for 7 shapes, your face proportions, a virtual glasses try-on, and hairstyle, beard and makeup tips. Free and private: photos never leave your device.

Upload a selfie or scan your face live and the detector maps 478 facial landmarks in your browser. It measures your forehead, cheekbones, jaw and face length, plus the angles of your jaw and chin, then scores you against all seven face shapes: oval, round, square, oblong, heart, diamond and triangle. You see every score, not just one label, so you can tell when your face is a blend of two shapes. Your results come with the haircuts, glasses frames, beard styles, contouring, earrings and necklines that suit your shape, and you can try 10 glasses frame styles on your own photo. No photo? Measure your face with a ruler or answer six quiz questions. Nothing is uploaded: detection runs entirely on your device.

## How to use Face Shape Detector

1. **Choose how to analyse your face** — Pick Upload photo for a selfie, Live camera to scan with your webcam or phone, Measure if you have a ruler or tape, or Quiz if you'd rather answer questions in front of a mirror.
2. **Take a clear, front-facing photo** — Look straight at the camera with a neutral expression, pull your hair back off your forehead, remove glasses and face a window or lamp. In camera mode, fit your face inside the guide oval until every check turns green.
3. **Read your face shape and scores** — See your top match, the score for every shape, your measurements drawn on the photo, and your proportions. If two shapes are close you'll be told, so you can use tips from both.
4. **Get style tips and try on glasses** — Switch between hairstyles, glasses, beard or makeup and accessories for women or men. Try frame styles and colours on your photo, then download your result card or share it.

## About

### How the face shape detector works

The detector uses a face landmark model to place 478 points on your face, in your browser. It measures four widths and lengths that stylists use: forehead width (across the temples), cheekbone width (the widest point under the outer eyes), jaw width (corner to corner below the ears) and face length (hairline to chin, with the hairline estimated from your proportions). It also measures the angle at the corners of your jaw and at your chin, which separates angular square jaws from soft round ones and pointed heart and diamond chins. These ratios are compared with the proportions of each of the seven face shapes, and every shape gets a score. Because the comparison uses ratios, photo size and distance don't matter.

### The 7 face shapes and how to recognise them

Each face shape is defined by which part of the face is widest and how long the face is compared with its width. Use this table to check your result, or compare it with your measurements from the Measure mode.

| Face shape | Length vs width | Widest part | Jaw & chin |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Oval | About 1.5× longer than wide | Cheekbones | Softly rounded, narrower than the forehead |
| Round | About as long as wide | Cheeks | Soft, rounded jaw, no corners |
| Square | About as long as wide | Forehead, cheeks and jaw are similar | Strong, angular jaw, broad chin |
| Oblong / rectangle | 1.6× or more longer than wide | Similar widths throughout | Straight cheek line, can be angular |
| Heart | Slightly longer than wide | Forehead | Narrow jaw, pointed chin |
| Diamond | Slightly longer than wide | Cheekbones (clearly) | Narrow forehead and jaw, pointed chin |
| Triangle / pear | Slightly longer than wide | Jaw | Broad jaw, narrower forehead |

### How to measure your face shape at home

Pull your hair back and stand in front of a mirror. Hold a ruler flat in front of your face, or use a soft tape, and measure: 1) forehead width across the widest part, halfway between your eyebrows and hairline; 2) cheekbone width across the most prominent points just below the outer corners of your eyes; 3) jaw width straight across from one jaw corner (just below the ear) to the other; 4) face length from the centre of your hairline to the tip of your chin. Divide your face length by your cheekbone width. Around 1.5 points to oval, under about 1.3 to round or square, and over about 1.6 to oblong. Then compare forehead and jaw: a wider forehead suggests heart, a wider jaw suggests triangle, and cheekbones much wider than both suggests diamond. The Measure mode does this maths for you in centimetres or inches.

### Best glasses for your face shape

The rule of thumb is contrast: choose frames that are the opposite of your face shape, roughly as wide as the widest part of your face. Angular frames balance soft faces, rounded frames soften angular ones, and deep or top-heavy frames shorten or widen faces as needed. Use the virtual try-on to see each style on your own photo.

| Face shape | Most flattering frames | Frames to approach with care |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Oval | Wayfarer, square, geometric, aviator | Very narrow or oversized frames |
| Round | Rectangle, square, wayfarer, browline | Round, oval, small rimless |
| Square | Round, oval, aviator, cat-eye | Square, rectangle, geometric |
| Oblong | Aviator, wayfarer, deep square, browline | Small rimless, narrow frames |
| Heart | Round, oval, aviator, rimless | Heavy browline, top-heavy frames |
| Diamond | Cat-eye, oval, rimless, browline | Narrow geometric, rectangle |
| Triangle | Browline, cat-eye, aviator, wayfarer | Rectangle, rimless |

### Best hairstyles for each face shape

Hair is the easiest way to change how proportions read. Round and square faces benefit from height on top and length past the chin; oblong faces from bangs and width at the sides rather than height; heart faces from volume around the jaw and chin; diamond faces from fullness at the forehead and chin; triangle faces from volume at the crown and temples. Oval faces suit almost anything. Your results show specific cuts for women and men, and styles to approach with care.

### Why online face shape results sometimes disagree

Most faces are a mix of two shapes, and small changes in a photo shift the ratios: a head turned slightly to one side narrows one cheek, a phone held close at arm's length makes the middle of the face look wider, and hair across the forehead hides the hairline. Tools that only give one label hide how close the call was. This detector shows a score for every shape, warns you about head turn and photo quality, straightens tilted photos, and in camera mode averages dozens of frames. If your top two shapes are within a few percent, treat yourself as a blend and use advice from both.

## FAQ

### How do I find out my face shape?

Upload a front-facing selfie (or use the live camera) and the detector measures your forehead, cheekbones, jaw and face length to score you against the seven face shapes. Without a photo, measure those four distances in a mirror with a ruler and enter them in Measure mode, or answer the six-question quiz.

### What are the 7 face shapes?

Oval, round, square, oblong (also called rectangle or long), heart, diamond and triangle (also called pear). Some guides add inverted triangle, which is usually treated as heart.

### Is this face shape detector accurate?

It measures real proportions from 478 landmarks and scores every shape, so it's more reliable than guessing in a mirror. Accuracy depends on the photo: face the camera straight on, pull your hair back and avoid wide-angle selfies held very close. The tool warns you about a turned head or a small face, and the camera mode averages many frames for a steadier result.

### Is my photo uploaded or stored?

No. The face landmark model is downloaded to your browser and all analysis happens on your device. Your photo and camera video are never uploaded, saved or used for training.

### What is the most common face shape?

Oval is generally considered the most common face shape, followed by round and square. Diamond is usually the rarest.

### How can I tell if my face is oval or round?

Compare length and width. An oval face is about one and a half times as long as it is wide, with cheekbones as the widest point and a slightly narrower jaw. A round face is about as long as it is wide with full cheeks and a soft jaw. A length-to-width ratio around 1.5 points to oval and around 1.2 to 1.3 to round.

### What is the difference between a square and a round face?

Both are about as long as they are wide. A square face has a strong, angular jaw with defined corners and a forehead, cheekbones and jaw of similar width. A round face has a soft, curved jaw with no corners and fuller cheeks. The detector measures your jaw-corner angle to tell them apart.

### What glasses suit my face shape?

Choose frames that contrast with your face: rectangular and square frames for round faces, round and oval frames for square faces, deep frames for oblong faces, light or bottom-heavy frames for heart faces, and cat-eye or browline frames for diamond and triangle faces. After analysing your photo you can try 10 frame styles on your own face.

### What hairstyle suits my face shape?

Round faces suit height on top and length past the chin; square faces suit soft waves and side-swept fringes; oblong faces suit bangs and width at the sides; heart faces suit chin-length bobs and volume at the jaw; diamond faces suit fringes and fullness at the chin; triangle faces suit volume at the crown. Oval faces suit nearly every style.

### Can my face be two shapes?

Yes. Most people are a blend, such as oval-heart or round-square. That's why the detector shows a percentage for every shape and tells you when your top two are close. Use the tips for both shapes.

### Does face shape change with age or weight?

Your bone structure stays the same, but weight changes and ageing affect the soft tissue around your cheeks and jaw, which can shift how your face reads, for example from oval toward round. Re-check your face shape after big changes.

### Does the face shape detector work for men?

Yes. Face shapes are the same for everyone. Switch recommendations to Men to see haircuts and beard styles, or Women for haircuts, contouring and makeup placement.

### Is this face shape detector free?

Yes. It's completely free, with no sign-up, watermark or limit on photos.
